Objective

To promote sustainability, community and app engagement for one of the largest property companies who creates, owns and manages some of the UK’s best and most sustainable real estate.
 
Delivery number 10 working on this project with the team at British Land and it was the biggest one yet; 14,500 air-purifying plants distributed across 13 buildings, on 3 campuses in 5 days by 90 members of Chilled team. Encouraging the occupiers to green their spaces and reap the benefits of biophilia by improving both air quality and general well-being

Solution

A goal of ours year on year has been to build on our sustainable creds. From 2017 to 2024:
we’ve moved from simply selecting air purifying plants to choosing British grown, peat free soil plants. 

Removing single use plastic from the project entirely down to the cable ties, from handing out plants in plastic growers pots, to coconut pots, to pots produced using renewable energy and made from recycled plastic. 

To support our sustainability goals, we heavily consolidated our deliveries. Merging giveaways onto as few dates as possible to lower the number of vehicles delivering plants and basing order quantities on the number to fill a van instead of sending out part filled vehicles. Our goal for 2025 is to have carbon neutral deliveries. 

Challenges

Footfall was a little unpredictable which led to a drop resulting in a surplus of plants, necessitating an additional giveaway day. Within 24 hours, we booked a team, secured last minute permits, laundered uniform, and executed the extra day seamlessly. This swift response was facilitated by a contingency plan included in our budget.
 
Our original plan was to use pots made from waste plastic collected on our campuses as a truly full circle moment to give them their third life. However, due to constraints to budget and time, we opted for recycled plastic Elho pots, which still underscored the eco-friendly message behind the campaign.

REsults

One of our most sustainable giveaways yet; a cohesive blend from both event delivery to delivering on a site which is the largest architectural use of EFC concrete in the Northern Hemisphere.
