Objective

To design, build and deliver a Summer of Sport activation to work across 3 different neighbourhoods in London for 7 weeks. Designed to seamlessly engage with occupiers and residents, drive app engagement and enliven the whole neighbourhood.

Solution

We chose to steer away from a typical Summer of Sport activity and create more than just a game – we wanted to build a challenge. We tapped into our childhoods and played around with the concept of a playground which has a multitude of quick games.

Tapping into what we know our occupiers need and want, we thought of 4 games which can be played within 10 minutes, without getting too hot and without any kind of skill; all of which are playable alone or against up to 4 others.
Instead of offering just one of these games, we decided to offer 4 punchy, endorphin releasing games and QUAD: The Multisport Challenge, was born.

QUAD was accessible to be played by anyone on campus but to drive engagement to each campus app, we added in a leaderboard. This increased the element of competition not just between players but between companies on campus.
We created a simple form allowing us to record all players details with their scores which the client could simply extract the top winners and upload these onto each campus app for occupiers to get real time results. Again, driving them back to the app.

We truly understand how important the aesthetic of each campus is, each has been carefully curated with it’s own identity and brand, but a common thread is art. A point of difference to our pitch, was designing not only an engaging and competitive activity, but also a striking piece of art for those who just want to appreciate the shapes, colours, construction and strong visual against the metropolis. A piece that each estate team was proud to have on display.

Some subtle changes to colours in the artwork to consider and fit the brand of each site also helped them to retain their identity through the activation.

Challenges

With 5 weeks from concept to delivery, we successfully designed, constructed, dealt with challenges and amends, printed and installed. Collaborating with a seasoned build team, The Seasonal Group, we were in the right hands of a professional and dedicated group of designers and fabricators to achieve the install date.

Designing a structure that moved across 3 sites in 7 weeks and which had to look brand new for each new team meant some clever design, manufacturing and transport. With the scale of the piece, wasn’t always easy and a few changes to the sizes had to be changed from the original spec. However, this allowed us to construct QUAD in an assortment of pieces with a consideration as to how it can be pieced together in a new fashion for future creating a new activation; giving it a new life as a sustainable activation.

REsults

QUAD was received fantastically by the estate teams, occupiers, residents and just passers by. There were regular return visits from occupiers eager to beat their last score or to make it onto the leaderboard. Multiple emails and feedback via the campus app were received each week about our brand ambassadors on how their encouragement and friendliness made playing QUAD incredibly enjoyable.

Kudos

“QUAD was such a hit with occupiers and we really did manage to bring out the competitiveness and inner child of everyone who played. I know I’ve said it a few times over the last 7 weeks, but a huge credit to your staff working the event.

The majority of feedback we received highlighted how great they were and I had some BL staff comment too that when they passed QUAD, the staff were whooping, cheering, and just generally creating a fun, competitive atmosphere.”

“Reaching out to send my thanks for the fun time at the Broadgate Summer of Sport Quad. What a great way to introduce summertime play — something that is so often forgotten for adults! Specifically, I’d like to give appreciation to your wonderful team members — Simone, Amraj, and Danielle who were friendly, created a safe environment, clearly explained the rules, and cheered my friend and me on.

Thank you again for the great time and cheers to the fantastic team members that were instrumental in creating such a positive experience.”

“I wanted to express my appreciation for the Quad Multisport Challenge in Broadgate Circle. It was an incredibly fun, exciting, and mentally refreshing event, providing a fantastic physical workout as well.

Quad will be missed, as well as your amazing team!”
